The 1986 World Cup started for Brazil with 3 wins in the group with Spain, Algeria and Northern Ireland. In the eighth final, Poland was sent home 4-0. In the quarterfinals, the Brazilians had to compete against France. It was the last chance for the world title for both generations. Careca and Platini scored before halftime. After the break it remained exciting and Zico missed a penalty for Brazil. No more goals were scored in extra time and penalties had to be given. These were better taken by the French and so Brazil could go home early.
