This is the official Liverpool retro shirt 1988-1989 of the English club. The back of the retro shirt features jersey number 7, number worn by Dalglish. This shirt is based on the football shirt from the 1988-89 season. The red Liverpool shirt has thin shadow stripes across the front. These stripes feature the Liverbird. Main sponsor CANDY can be seen in the center of the chest and the Liverpool FC emblem on the left chest. The shirt also contains a red and white v-neck. 100% polyester.
The 1988-1989 season was overshadowed by the Hillsborough disaster. The disaster happened on 15 April 1989 at Sheffield Wednesday's Hillsborough Stadium. This stadium was the venue for the semi-final between Liverpool and Nottingham Forest. The stampede resulted in the deaths of 96 Liverpool fans, the youngest victim being 10 years old and the oldest being 67 years old. 95 supporters died on the spot, the 96th died four years later when the medical equipment that was supposed to keep him alive was turned off.
