The 'final' of the 1950 World Cup was between Uruguay and host country Brazil. This match of one of the two final group matches. In the match Uruguay against Brazil, the Brazilians had enough of a draw to become world champions. The match was played at the Estadio do Maracana in Rio de Janeiro and there were 173,850 spectators (mainly Brazilians). With 25 minutes left, Brazil were leading 1-0, but in the 66th minute Uruguay equalized and 10 minutes from time Alcides Ghiggia scored the decisive goal, making Uruguay world champions for the second time. The 1-2 defeat in front of their own audience became a national trauma for Brazil. This match was nicknamed Maracanaco, the shock of Maracana.
